August/September 2005

Hello everyone!

Okay, so things have been a little hectic and I never got a newsletter out last month! Oops! But better late than never! Things have been going well. I don't really remember a lot about August but I do know it was busy since we were getting ready for the move! We thought we would get out of there without another storm but Katrina had other plans. We were blessed in that it moved far enough west that the most we had was a lot of wind and 60mph winds. Not bad at all. I wouldn't have wished the destruction on anyone but we really were hoping it wouldn't hit us. It was the third one in 11 months for our area and Pensacola is still recovering from Ivan, Katrina was the last thing they needed. Katrina delayed things a little but for the most part we were able to get out pretty close to plan.

We broke the trip up here into two days for Faith's sake which was a good thing. We left on Thursday and went to my grandmother's in GA. That was about a 7 hr trip (minor stops included).  We got up there with no problems. Friday was another story. We left my grandmother's on what should have been the last 4 and a half hours of the trip. We were supposed to be in NC no later than 6pm. We didn't roll into Hickory until almost 11pm. Faith was so sick all day. She kept throwing up and we'd have to stop to suction her our and change her clothes. This happened 5 or 6 times. Then we had to stop to hook her up to feed and that took time. Then I had a flat tire and we had to change it then find a place to get the tire fixed. Off and on during all of this Faith is throwing up constantly. She had had her shots on Wednesday and wasn't feeling well anyway. And I think she was car sick from never having been in a car for long periods like that. It was terrible. We finally made it up here and it took about 24 hours for her to start acting like herself and right as she was begining to feel better she came down with an upper respiratory infection. We've had 2 trips to the ER since Sunday and Wednesday we finally were given antibiotics. She's doing much better although she has the most pitiful cough. Her daddy said it sounded like a cat coughing up a furrball! He misses her terribly but will get to see her in October when he and his dad come up here for there family reunion in Hickory!

As far as the rest of her health she is doing great! She's becoming more and more vocal and active. She really tried to walk when I hold her in the standing position. She puts those feet one in front of the other until she gets to me. She's even started bouncing on her legs a little when I sing to her! I put her in an exersaucer and prob her with blankets and she goes crazy pushing on her feet and pushing with her arms off of the excersaucer. We are amazed on a daily basis by her accomplishments! PRAISE GOD!!

My mom and dad are doing great! In fact they signed papers on a house today! YAY!!!! It is so gorgeous! All hardwood floors and ceramic tile, oh it's beautiful. The man has agreed to be out by the end of the month so they will be able to close on the 30th or Oct 1st, I don't know which. The other great news is that Faith and I are going to have OUR OWN PLACE!!!!! YIPEEE!!!! We are going to stay in the appartment that we are all living in right now! My parents are going to help me with it but they feel that it will be best for Faith and I to have our own space! In a few months I'm going to go back to school to get my nursing degree and it will be nice to have our own place when I get into a groove! It's a two story appartment with 2 bedrooms and 1 and a half bathrooms. It even has a small screened in back porch!  It's  adorable and perfect for Faith and me!

I think that is about it. Things at the church seem to be going well and daddy seems to really like it. The people have been really excited about them being here. My sister, Dawn, and my niece (Alyssa) are coming to visit next weekend and I cannot wait!!!!! We are only 2 and a half hours from them!!!!! We will get to see Dawn, Benjy and Alyssa so much more often! I can't wait! We haven't lived this close to Dawn in YEARS!!! Next weekend will be the first time that Alyssa gets to meet her baby cousin! We are all excited. She looks at pictures and says "ahs my baby!"

I think that catches us up. I'll be happy when things are unpacked and we are all settled. It will only be a few more weeks. I miss all of you "down there" though. I may not have called but things have been crazy. I do think about ALL of you and love you all dearly!!! We will be in touch!!!

We love you all,
Luanne and Faith

JULY 2005

Hello everyone!!

I just wanted to e-mail everyone and let you all know that we are doing great! Faith is continuing to grow and amaze us all, even the doctors. She will be 4 months old on August 1st and she weighs almost 12lbs and is almost 21 inches long. She has outgrown her 0-3 months clothes!! Mommy can't believe that we are now in 3-6 month clothes!
We went to the pediatric neurosurgeon this week for a checkup. Dr Canady said that she is doing wonderful. We had been concerned that the encephalocele was growing. We had a CAT-scan done and everything looks great. It has not grown and there is no fluid build-up, therefore she still does not need a shunt! We asked Dr. Canady if she thought she would ever walk or talk etc. She started to say no then looked at her and at her file and said that she didn't know. She said that she could not believe how well she's done. She never expected Faith to live this long and now she doesn't know what to think! Dr. Canaday did say that she suspects that Faith will always be dependant and never able to do such things as dress herself. We don't know what the future holds but we know who holds the future and therefore we continue on this journey and enjoy each and every moment we have with her. It is just so exciting to see doctors who don't know what to tell us because they didn't think whe would do this well.
Faith is trying to push up on her forearms, lifting/turning her head, pushing up on her feet and bearing weight on her feet. She has also shown that she has the stepping reflex where she will put one foot in front of the other. She will take steps like that four times in a row when she's being held up. She reaches out her hand to my face to feel for me and has become affectionate in her own way. She responds to all of us and our voices, which is also incredible.
We also went to the eye doctor who said that he doesn't want to say that she is blind. He doesn't know if she can see but said that the eyes are developped just fine. Her optic nerve has some deformation but he said we will have to wait and see. We don't know if she has the part of her brain that processes vision therefore she could be seeing but not know what she's seeing.  He said that she has film in the camera but we don't know if the picture can be developped. We are not worried, we know that God is in control every step of the way.
On another note, our last Sunday at FBCN will be July 31st. We have already sold the house and will be moving in August. Once we know more details of where we are going and when I will let you all know. Please continue to pray for us as a chapter comes to an end and we begin another! We love you all.
Luanne and Faith
